Gazi University Students, Academic and Administrative Staff  can become members.

What are the required documents for membership?

Gazi University ID.

Do I have to pay a fee?

No, you do not have to pay a fee for our services and membership.

Do I have to update my memebership every year?

Yes, you have to update your membership by coming to the library every year with your new ID or student certificate.

Questions About Book Search, Borrowing and Extension Procedures

I just enrolled at the university. How can I use the library?

Newly enrolled students at Gazi University can borrow books from the library as a member once they apply to our Library's Lending Unit with their student IDs. For more information, you can call 0312 202 29 40 - 0312 202 29 41.

How can I find the book I'm looking for?

You can find it when you search by entering the subject, author, book title, serial name or keyword you are looking for from the scanning computers on the entrance floor of the library and the library web page.

How many books can I borrow?

Academic staff can borrow 20 books for 2 months, undergraduate students 5 books for 15 days, doctoral students 10 books for 1 month, graduate students 8 books for 1 month, administrative staff 6 books for 15 days. Borrowing transactions are made with the Gazi University school ID.

Can I borrow a bound journal?

You cannot borrow bound journals.

How can I access books that are not available in our library?

You can order books that are not available in our library through the interlibrary loan service. In order to benefit from this service, you need to make sure that the book or books are in our collection by searching the printed and electronic catalogs. If they are not found in our library, you need to find out in which library the book or books are by scanning www.toplukatalog.gov.tr ​​and then applying to the Interlibrary Cooperation Unit. You can use the Interlibrary Cooperation System for your requests. Only academic staff can use this service.

Can I reserve a book that is on loan for myself?

If the book is borrowed by someone else, reservations can be made using the search terminals at the library entrance and the Library web page. After the reserved book is returned, it is kept for you at the Circulation Unit for 3 days.

Can I extend the duration of the book I borrowed?

All users can extend the loan period of the book as long as the book has not been reserved by someone else and they do not have an overdue book.  Extensions can be made by bringing the book to the library, by fax or from the Library web page.

Where are borrowing-return transactions made?

It is made from the Circulation Department counter on the ground floor of our library. You can also make borrowing-return and extension transactions yourself at the 3 self-checks on the entrance floor of the library.

I am a research assistant at another university. Can I borrow a book?

You can borrow up to 5 books for 1 month through interlibrary loan. Come with an approved and recently dated interlibrary cooperation form, 1 photo and your identity document from the library of your institution.

How can I use e-books?

You can use it by browsing under the title of "Electronic Books" from the library web page.

 

General Catalog Questions

What is the call number?

The call number is the number that enables the book to be cataloged and found easily on the shelf according to its subject. Thanks to this system, you can see the books on the same subject together on the shelves.

Can I access Gazi Central Library catalog from outside the campus?

Yes. You can access the library catalog page at http://www.lib.gazi.edu.tr by using the links "Search Catalog" and "User Transactions".

 

Questions About Electronic and Printed Sources

How can I find out if the journal I am looking for is in the library (in print or electronic format)?

When you search with the name of the journal in the "Catalog Search" field on the library's web page, you can find out whether the journal you are looking for is in the library. If the journal is available in printed format, you can find information about the year, volume and issues in the library from the "Holdings" section. In electronic media, you can reach the main page of the journal with the link in the "Link" section.

You can access the journals by browsing the names of the electronic journals and the "Electronic Journals" heading on our website.

Where can I browse the most appropriate full text or bibliographic databases for the location?

The databases we subscribe to and their explanations are available on the library website under the heading "Databases". In line with these explanations, you can make your search by determining the appropriate database for your subject.

You can also search for more than one database at the same time by using the "Electronic Articles" title or Gazi Search title on the web page.

How is article scanning done?

You can search for articles by entering the "Databases" page from the library web page. You can browse each of them and access articles related to your research by clicking the link of the databases suitable for your research from the user manuals located next to the databases.

How can I scan for Turkish articles?

for Turkish articles you can use the  "Turkey  Articles Bibliography" resource. The online version of this source can be accessed using the "Turkey Articles Bibliography "  link located under the heading "Bibliographies" in the  National Library's web page (http://www.mkutup.gov.tr) 

You can also search the Turkish databases prepared by Ulakbim using the link http://uvt.ulakbim.gov.tr/uvt/.

How can I do a citation search?

For citation search, you can search by clicking the Web of Science link on the library web page or under the heading "Databases".

The Web of Science database includes Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Science Citation Index and Arts & Humanities Citation Index.

Scopus is another database that can be used for citation search. You can also search for citations by clicking the Scopus link under the heading "Databases".

How can I access the journal from the bibliographic information that I have obtained as a result of the search?

To see if the journal you are looking for can be found in our library, you need to select the "Journal Name" option in the Catalog Search field and type a name to search. If the journal is in printed form, you can access the journal by going to the 1st floor of the Library after confirming the existence of the year, volume and issue of the journal you are looking for in the "Holdings" field.

In cases where the journal is not available in print format, you can check whether the journal has an electronic subscription in the "Catalog Search" field, or you can inquire about your journal from the "Electronic Journals" area. If the library has an electronic subscription to the journal you want, you can access the journal without coming to the library by using the relevant links. (Our university academic staff and graduate / doctoral students can access electronic resources from outside the campus by setting their proxy.)

Can I use electronic journals and databases from computers outside the university?

If you are asked for a password when connecting to electronic journals that our library subscribes to, the journal may be embargoed or the problem may be caused by a problem experienced in the server accessing the journal. To rectify the problem, please call us on 0312 202 29 56 or 0312 202 29 57 and report the problem.

Are there any user guides about databases?

Yes. You can view it by clicking the user manual link next to each database name. You can also call 0312 202 29 56 - 0312 202 29 57 to get information about databases.

Is there user training on how to use the electronic resources in the library?

Yes, user training is provided in line with requests from lecturers or users. For user training, an appointment can be made by calling 0312 202 29 56-0312 202 29 57 or by filling in the "User Training Request Form" on the web page.

Do you scan articles?

No. When you come to our library, the reference librarian will provide the necessary explanation and assistance on how to scan.

Where can I find criticism and discussion articles about a book?

You can find book reviews and discussions in "Web of Science" and "Academic Search Complete" databases.

How can I access Master and PhD theses?

Theses can be found in in the Thesis Department on the 2nd floor of our Library. To access them you need to scan our catalog. After selecting the title "Detailed Search" in the catalog and typing the title that you are looking for, you can start scanning by selecting "Thesis Section" from the "Location" field. A call number is given to the printed records. After receiving this number, you will need to go to the Thesis Department desk. To access theses in electronic format you need to click on the "Internet Page" link under the thesis title. You can also access electronic theses from the Open Access area on our library website.

If you want to access foreign theses, you can use the "Proquest Digital Dissertations" database under the heading "Electronic Theses".

 

Questions about Inter-Library Lending and Document Provision

Can I bring articles and books from abroad?

Yes. Only academic staff can benefit from this service. You can use the Inter-Library Collaboration System for your requests.

How do I get books through inter-library lending?

Academic staff are required to fill out a request form using the Inter-Library Cooperation System from the Library page.

I'm a research assistant outside Gazi University. Can I borrow a book from your library?

You can borrow a book as a member of our library with an approved inter-library cooperation form, id card and one photo for membership from the library of the institution you belong to.

How many books can I get through inter-library lending, for how long?

Placement Questions

How do I find out which floor the book I'm looking for is on?

Place number A - N coded books and Thesis 2nd On the floor, books coded P -Z and Closed Section books are located on the 3rd floor.

How do I find up-to-date magazines?

Current journals are located on the 1st floor of the library alphabetically according to the journal name. You can use the catalog scan page on the library's web page to find out if the periodicals you are looking for are available in our library.

Where can I find hardcover magazines?

Hardcover journals are located on the 1st floor of the library. On the right side of the floor are journals of science and health sciences, and on the left side are journals of social sciences.

Where can I find master's and doctoral dissertations?

Theses are located in the Thesis Department located on the 2nd floor of our library. In order to access the theses, you need to scan our catalog. After writing the topic you are looking for in the catalog, start the scan by putting the thesis. After receiving the sorting number of the resulting records, go to the Thesis Section counter. In addition, theses with access permission can be accessed from the open access area of our library web page.

 

Photocopying and Output Services

Is there a copy service in the library?

Yes. Photocopying is provided on the 1st and 2nd floors of the library.

Can I print out electronic articles?

No, you can send it to your email address or upload it to your USB memory.

Where can I apply for information?

Can tour or training be organized regarding the use and promotion of library resources?

Yes. You can use this service on the specified day and time by telephone (0312 202 29 56 - 0312 202 29 57). In addition, our academic staff can benefit from this service on the specified day and time by filling out the "User Training Request Form" under the heading "Reference Service" on our website.

Electronically, it is a system that displays full-text sources. As a result of scans of electronic journals and databases, select "PDF" at the bottom of the article masthead to see the full article.

How do I open an article with a PDF file?

You can open PDF files by installing Acrobat Reader on your computer for free from the Internet.

Is there a place in the library where I can buy floppy disks or CD-ROM?

No.

Can I use my own laptop in the library?

Yes, you can. Wireless (wireless internet) service is also provided in our library and users who have a wireless card on their computer can benefit from this service.
