Open Access and institutional Repository Policy

These application principles are based on the articles 4/c and 42/d of the Higher Education Law numbered 2547 and the Open Access and Open Science Circular issued by the Higher Education Council's Department of Publication and Documentation; it covers the issues related to the compilation of the scientific studies of Gazi University members, their long term  protection and assurance, and accordingly stores scientific knowledge and experimental results in the institutional repository of Gazi University to be presented to the scientific world.

In these application principles;

Open Access: Refers to researchers being able to access the full texts of scientific outputs free of charge in digital media without legal and technical obstacles,

Academic Study: Refers to articles, graduate theses, papers, seminar texts, technical notes, project reports, books, book chapters, patent documents, open course materials, etc.  that arepublished in scientific journals or are in the process of publication. 

Institutional Repository: Refers to an open access system that includes the whole  of services of scientific outputs  produced by university members that are collected, stored and long term protected.

Gazi University Member:  Refers to Gazi University faculty members and graduate students

Open Science and Open Access Commission:  Refers to the commission that plans and evaluates the functionality of the university regarding open science and open access, and proposes measures when necessary.

Open Access and institutional Repository Policy

Ensuring  a wider audience free, easy and fast access the information produced at our university,

Creating an electronic repository and transferring it to future generations with the understanding of preserving and storing information produced at an institutional dimension.

Using the scientific studies in the open repository more widely to enable more citations and increasing the access channels to allow an increase in the impact values of the publications.

Contributing to national and international open repository studies.

Increasing the visibility of our university.

OPEN SCIENCE AND OPEN ACCESS COMMISSION POWERS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Establishment of the Open Science and Open Access Commission

The Open Access Commission consists of the faculty members determined by the Rector for three years, taking into account the basic fields of the University, the relevant Vice Rector and the Head of the Library Documentation Department. The Commission is chaired by the relevant Vice Rector. Expired members can be re-appointed in the same manner. The Head of Library Documentation Department is a permanent member of the commission.

Duties of the Open Science and Open Access Commission

The following is carried out  by the Open Science and Open Access Commission within the framework of the Higher Education Council Open Access and Open Science policies and in the scope of the Gazi University Open Science and Open Access policy;

Establishment of the Open Access repository System,

Ensuring integration with the European Open Access Infrastructure (OpenAIRE),

Holding promotional meetings to encourage academic staff and graduate students to open access and to be included in the system,

Reviewing and changing Open Access Policies when necessary,

Reporting the studies periodically,

Activities to organise the information entry of Open Access and Open Repository stakeholders into the system.

Functioning of the Open Science and Open Access Commission 

The commission meets at least twice a year under the chairmanship of the Rector or Vice Rector. However, an extraordinary meeting may be held upon the call of the Chairman of the Commission.

The Secretariat of the Commission is carried out by the Head of the Library Department.

The decisions of the commission are sent to the General Secretariat for implementation.
