General Information
Gazi University Central Library was established in 1982 to support the education and research activities of our University. From 1982 to 2004, it continued its services in the 2000 m2 building located in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Science garden. In May 27, 2004, it started to serve in the 11.000 m2 building located in Gazi University Rectorate Campus.
Library services are carried out centrally by the Library and Documentation Department.,
The Central Library offers our University students and Academic and Administrative Staff the opportunity to benefit from library services provided that they are a member. In addition, due to the lack of physical space, the libarary can not accept any other user excluding academic staff of other universities and library protocol users
In the Central Library collection, there are a total of 344,254 volumes including 249,480 books, 82,239 bound journals, 12,535 master's theses. The number of periodicals subscribed to is 50. As of December 2020, access is provided to 72,285 electronic journals, 343,319 electronic books, 3,903,915 foreign electronic theses, 17,135 electronic theses, 16,276 non-book materials and 112 databases. Every year, 15,000 - 20,000 volumes of new publications are added to the collection.
Books on Medicine and Health Sciences in the Central Library collection are offered to users on open shelves according to the NLM (National Library of Medicine) classification system, and books on other subjects according to the LC (Library of Congress) classification system.
In the Central Library, readers can benefit from online databases with 119 computers, use the subscribed electronic journals and internet for scientific purposes and browse the library catalog via OPAC terminals. They can also browse the Central Library catalog without coming to the library from their faculties with the Central Library web page and It is possible for them to use electronic journals and to benefit from online databases.
For publications that are not in the Central Library collection, lecturers are provided with the publications they need by borrowed books from libraries in Turkey and abroad through "Interlibrary Cooperation".
Orientation programs are organized at the beginning of each academic year in order to introduce library services and information resources to new students.
